Siamak Barghi

Siamak Barghi is an Iranian musician, composer, and educator, currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Music Composition at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He earned his Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Tehran in 2021.

Siamak began his musical journey at the age of five under the guidance of his father, Assad Barghi. Over the years, he has studied with several distinguished maestros and scholars, including Bahman Rajabi, Mohammadreza Lotfi, Navid Afghah, Hooman Asadi, Sasan Fatemi, Babak Khazrai, Tanya Merchant, Ben Leeds Carson, Hi Kyung Kim, Matthew Schumaker, and Karlton Hester.

An accomplished instrumentalist specializing in tombak, violin, and kamancheh, Siamak has performed extensively since 2006. He has collaborated in concerts with renowned Iranian musicians such as Aliakbar Shekarchi, Shahram Mirjalali, and Ardeshir Kamkar.

In 2010, he co-founded the Saba Orchestra in his hometown of Mashhad, in collaboration with his brother, Samad Barghi. In addition to his primary instruments, he is also proficient in several traditional Iranian instruments, including the setar, daf, oud, and ghichak.

Beyond his work as a musician and composer, Siamak also has a strong background in STEM. He holds an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, and his scholarly output includes multiple articles and published books. His interdisciplinary perspective bridges engineering, music, and artistic creation, enriching both his research and creative practice.
